Programs

We aim to teach Chinese language and culture in fun and interactive ways. 
​Kindergarten to Year 2


Our junior program utilises hands on learning techniques and children learn to;

  • Greet people including cultural gestures when you meet someone using role play games

  • Follow simple instructions - Stand up, sit down etc using songs, rhymes, dances, actions and games

  • Sing songs including traditional Chinese songs

  • Identify the differences between sounds and their meanings, for example (father) and (afraid)

  • Write in Chinese (Hànzì) and create greeting cards, posters and stories

  • Read in Chinese (Hànzì) and match the word to objects and ideas through stories, games and role-play

  • Introductory vocabulary - simple nouns including objects around their environment

  • Explore picture books and learn introductory vocabulary in context

  • Know the numbers 1 - 10

  • Discover and celebrate some of the cultural celebrations of China such as Chinese New Year

  • Describe their family in Chinese

 

Years 3 and 4

 

Our program for Years 3 and 4 builds on their knowledge from the junior program. It continues to utilise hands on learning techniques and children learn to;

  • Introduce themselves and basic conversation - brief and basic conversations, greetings, farewells, simple interactions that introducing yourself

  • Identify and use basic expressions such as "You are welcome" (Bù kèqi) 

  • Use paralanguage - learning tone, pitch, gestures and volume to convey meaning

  • Repeat rhymes and songs

  • Ask and answer statements, questions and instructions 

  • Explore picture books and learn more complex vocabulary in context

  • Write using Chinese characters (Hànzì) to create words and sentences.

  • Write in Chinese (Hànzì) and create greeting cards, posters, invitations and stories

  • Read in Chinese (Hànzì) and match the word to objects and ideas through stories, games and role-play

  • Read, write and understand simple Chinese characters (Hànzì) such as mountain (shān) and sun (rì) through games and calligraphy practice

  • Know the numbers 1 - 50

  • Discover Chinese culture exploring Chinese food, school life, landmarks and traditional clothing

 
Years 5 and 6

 

Our program for Years 5 and 6 builds on their knowledge from the junior program. It continues to utilise hands on learning techniques and children learn to;

  • Participate in conversations - brief and basic conversations, greetings, farewells, simple interactions that introducing yourself

  • Tips and tricks on how to manage new and unfamiliar language

  • Use helpful expressions such as "correct", "Please say it again", "I don't understand" and "How do you say it in Chinese?"

  • Practice conversations in everyday situations, such as purchasing from a store, or asking for directions

  • Read and understand simple written stories and explore the language to find the meaning of the story

  • Ask and answer statements, questions and instructions 

  • Write using Chinese characters (Hànzì) to create words and sentences with correct grammar

  • Create new sentences using Chinese characters (Hànzì) and write them out with correct way

  • Read, write and understand a greater number of Chinese characters (Hànzì) through games and calligraphy practice

  • Know the numbers 1 - 100

  • Discover Chinese culture exploring traditional vs contemporary lifestyles of the Chinese, eg family, food, clothing, religion

  • Connect with Chinese-speaking people in the community

  • Make connections between words in Mandarin and English

 
Years 7 - 12

 

We currently do not have classes running for children in grades 7 - 12. Please contact us if you are interested in this option.
